No Major Changes.
[Red Edition only] Point [2] should now read: 'In a further 40 metres by a four armed metal sign (and about 20 metres before another wooden barrier) take the public bridleway no. 8, 'School Lane', to the right.' [RedEdition Only] P58 "Turn left into Poundswick Close". This is not a public right of way. The correct way to go is not to turn left into Poundswick Close but to go on another 45 metres, then turn left onto the tree-lined footpath, in 150 metres coming to Abbey Orchard, where you turn right up to the Abbey.) The catherdral cafe is recommended. |

| red | The suggested lunchtime pub is Moor Mill Inn. Note that bar meals are from midday to 2.30pm on weekdays only; the restaurant is open all day until 7.30pm daily. The restaurant may best be booked for on 01727 875 557. A sign outside specifying 'Smart Casual Clothes' was no longer there in Feb 2000 (reports Windhover). (The Old Fox, near the start of the walk, now serves food midday to 8.30pm (no longer till 10pm). | ||||
| red | On Feb 3rd 2001 there was a 40m stretch of this walk before lunch where you either needed deep gumboots or to climb along the wooden fence (topped with barbed wire). This flooding seems to have persisted for a couple of months at least. | ||||
| red | Follow Ver Valley Walk signs most of the day in preference to instructions on the book, to avoid the present floods. | ||||
| blue | 54 | tea | The cathedral cafe has had its decor revamped and is worth a look for this. It continues to offer a variety of home-made cakes and pastries etc. | ||
| red | 56 | col 1 | Point [2] should now read: 'In a further 40 metres by a four armed metal sign (and about 20 metres before another wooden barrier) take the public bridleway no. 8, 'School Lane', to the right.' | ||
| blue | Feb-02 | 57 | col 1, para 5 | And despite several rainy weeks, the lower path is in good order. So the alternative more sheltered route is to turn right steeply down, ignoring the Ver Valley path continuing level ahead. This takes you between two lakes surrounded by scrub and then out to the lakes mentioned further on. | |
| red | 58 | col 3 | 10 lines up. Jim Cheetham writes: "Turn left into Poundswick Close" it says in the book ... but here you can no longer turn up the bank onto the footpath, the fence has been put up, as well as a small padlocked gate. So I think that missing out the close may be better." (Ed: This is not a public right of way, my apologies. Richard and Christine Mills report that the correct way to go is not to turn left into Poundswick Close but to go on another 45 metres, then turn left onto the tree-lined footpath, in 150 metres coming to Abbey Orchard, where you turn right up to the Abbey.) |
