Time Out Country Walks near London Volume 1

Walk 36 : Borough Green to Sevenoaks

Updates and Feedback

Summary No major changes.
Updates

Major Update: The recommended lunchtime Pub is now the Padworth Arms.

This is a lovely walk. The route passes Igtham Mote (now re-opened) and the dramatic and very large Knole Palace (both National Trust). The palace is set in a pretty deer park.

Fully revised in Aug-08.

The former lunchtime pub (The Snail) is now a restaurant and doesn't welcome walkers, although you can use its beer garden in summer (booking is recommended). The route change is in the revised version (link above), but briefly
After: "In 750 meters you come out on to a car road"
For The Snail, turn right.
For The Padworth Arms, cross the car road, and continue on in the same direction down a car-wide earth wide track, signposted as a bridleway. After 350 meters the path passes a farm building, and veers to the right. In a further 100 meters you come to the pub. Retrace your steps to this point after lunch.
After lunch, cross the peviously mentioned "car road", and take the indistinct footpath half left, through the open field (not the signposted bridleway on the car-wide track which leads to The Padworth Arms)

A walker comments:

"The lunch spot does in fact only serve lunch until 2, not 2.30 as the book states.

The oak tree in sevenoaks prep school has been cut down - the stump is there but surrounding by chairs so wasn't immediately obvious"
