The Yew Tree pub appears to be permanently closed (Oct 07). There's no reason not to carry on to the Jolly Woodman; it got a poor write-up in early editions of Book 1 but since it changed hands it's been fine for lunch, as several walkers have commented.

red Food is served at the Jolly Woodman pub from midday to 2pm Monday to Thursday, midday to 2.30pm Saturday and midday to 5pm Sunday. Just before entering Cookham, we swam across the Thames to the island there. My favourite tea place in Cookham is now the pub opposite the Spencer Gallery.
blue Oct-02 314 col 1 Lunch: the Jolly Woodman has new management with a good menu and quick service, though it can get very busy.
blue Oct-02 314 col 2 [1]: the uphill path has wide steps painted white, with a wooden fence.
red 316 4 lines after [2] Where it says "In 50 metres fork left, your direction 275 degrees", replace the next two paragraphs with: "You are now on a path with a fence to your right hand side. In 225 metres, this path comes to a T-junction where you go left, your direction 255 degrees. In 80 metres you have a lake to your right hand side. Soon your path reenters trees, with the lake still to your right hand side. In 340 metres, you come out of the trees to a building site (Sept 2000). Go under the pylons at right angles to them, your direction 245 degrees. In 50 metres, bear left with the path, your direction 225 degrees. In 100m, you go down steps to a tarrmac road, where you turn right ... (line 10, column 2, page 316)."
blue Oct-02 316 col 1, para 1 Then go right is marked by a green footpath signpost.
blue Oct-02 316 col 1, para 6 The "building site" is a field with some young trees planted. "In 50 m bear left with the path" with young trees on the left and a wire fence on the right.
blue Oct-02 316 col 2, para 1 in 12 metres go round a stile and half right. Then in 45 metres go past a pointless decrepit stile and turn right.
blue Oct-02 316 col 2, para 4 The blue arrow on a post cannot be seen - but the path is clear and wide.
red 317 col 1 Line 14. Add: "When you exit the temporary coppicing enclosure (Sept 2000) you bear left between fences, walking on blocks of wood and paving stones, your direction 190 degrees. Soon over a stile ..."
blue Oct-02 317 col 1, para 6 The metal fieldgate is labelled "Pond's Wood" and "Private land - no access without permission".
blue Oct-02 317 col 2, para 2 Just before the road at [5] ignore a path back to your right signposted "Collum Green - permissive footpath". On crossing the road, the house "Tramarian" with a high wooden fence is to your right.
blue Oct-02 317 col 2, para 3 ignore the circular walk arrow going to the right[in italics]. There is a similar low wooden circular walk arrow pointing back the way you came. A few metres beyond this junction, ignore a permissive footpath to the left.
blue 318 col 1, foot Turning right on the road the direction is 320 degrees not 225.
blue Oct-02 319 col 1, para 2 go through ornate gates - these are wooden, painted green and you go through a small pedestrian gate to the right of a large vehicle gate. There are no visible footpath signs here.
blue Oct-02 319 col 2, last para There is a newsagents/grocers opposite Cookham station, which is open late and sometimes serves teas and coffees.
