[Aug04][Jul06] There have been several minor changes on the afternoon section of this walk after Hambleden that could eventually become major changes: a few, but not all, of these are corrected in the July 2006 (Ebury Press) edition:
As you get to the top of the hill on the way out of Hambleden (top of page 90), there is now a black barn to the right. When the path joins a lane 180 metres later, trees have been planted to the right of the lane, which will eventually alter the open character of this route. After crossing the road 500 metres further on, a hedge has been planted to the left of the farm track, so it will in due course feel as if it is between fields rather than on on the right hand edge of a field as currently stated. A little further on, in the wood, the trees have been thinned and the tree with the green arrow has gone: however, the two trees with white crosses on are still there, separated by about 150 metres, and it is after the second cross, that you turn right, though NOT on the faint track that slants back right immediately after it, but on the broader, more obvious track 10 metres further on. It is a bit confusing to say, as the book does, that this track curves left and then right: the left curve is not obvious, though the right curve certainly is. Lastly, at the fork at the top of the first column on page 91, trees have again been planted: so though at present it does feel as if you "come out of the trees" this feeling may not last. The fork is very obvious, and fenced, however. [Aug04][Jul06] Lunch and Tea places: The tea places in Marlow High Street have changed a bit. Caffe Uno is still there, but Coffee Republic is now Starbucks. Bonny's has been replaced by a new cafe called Fego Cafe, which is open until 5pm Saturdays and 4.30pm Sundays and public holidays; but 40 metres further on on the same side of the road, The Natural Cafe is open until 6pm Sunday to Friday and 7pm on Saturday, and looks an interesting choice. Burgers patisserie is still there, but closes at 5.15pm on Saturdays and is not open at all on Sunday. You can also post your own updates by using the COMMENT feature on this page |
