A southerly route over Black Down, with great views across Surrey and the West Weald. After visiting the Temple Of The Winds viewpoint, a long descent leads through the open grounds of Blackdown House, through bluebell-carpeted woods to the classic Sussex village of Lurgashall, with its pub and church at the corner of a central village green and cricket pitch. The afternoon takes us through a mix of flat farmland and wooded hills, a golf course and polo field, to the recently restored ruins of Cowdray. Climbing from the riverside, Midhurst's castle ruins lead to the old town's attractive centre.

A small shop on the opposite side of the green can supply snacks.
