Time Out Country Walks near London, Volumes 1 and 2.

Both books describe country walks in the southeast of England, about an hour by train from central London. All the walks start and end at train stations. Each walk comes complete with detailed walk directions (you wont need a map!), sketch maps, pubs for lunch, tea places, local history and places to visit.

The original book contains 50 walks. The new second volume contains 30 walks. Each "book 2" walk has several options to shorten each walk to make it suitable for new walkers. Book 2 is also more car friendly.

If you like the Time Out Book sof Country Walks, you might also like Alternative Gomera, another walking guide by the same author, but this time to La Gomera, a lovely and exotic island near Tenerife, perfect for an escape from the British winter. You can walk round the island in a week, staying at a different pension each night, and not spend more than £340 including your flight, food and all your spending. Each walk offers easier options, but otherwise they are equivalent to toughness 7 and above in the Time Out Books of Country Walks.
