Chequers

 

Rising in majestic municipilisation

its resplendent beauty shrouding its power

as men (mainly male and white and middle class)

gather in the many chambers

to plot and plan and possibly pursue

the demise of folk like me and you.

This poet is a cynic and a sceptic to boot

believing that these people somehow have lost their roots

and forgot how they clawed their way to the top

control is all powerful but once there they forgot.

Bringing lawmakers back to our world

our standard we must raise it, our flag will be unfurled

and we will be symbolic of the revolt of the mass

but reality says – 'what a load of trash.'
