Life’s Bondage Let Us Escape

I missed the train to Haslemere

the one the poets took

but I still can write, if I have some thoughts

and post to the wandering book.

I may catch the others upon the walk

in my mind, if not in fact

I wonder who will spill their mind

with skill, if not with tact.

The nature walk is on this train

with them, shall I remain?

but two weeks ago I did their route

along the Milford’s Lanes.

I’m told that only two turned up

to enjoy the Haslemere view

and three’s a crowd, it’s often said

but one is far too few.

I found the group in the lunchtime pub

there were four, which is two plus two

adding one is five, which is less then six

the numbers are complex.

I discussed the starting time arranged

of walk number twenty two

and although the commencing times are set

as individuals we can choose

to walk in groups or all alone

at hours we decide ourselves

rules and conventions are made to break

from life’s bondage let us escape.
