A year's struggle

The roaring wind rushing in from the sea

sweeps the cobwebs from my mind

and the spindrift oozing from the waves

wash the smoke from my thoughts and eyes.

At last I feel like a soaring gull

drifting on the breeze

for today I am freed from my load of dirt

I’m cleansed and feel at ease.

Freed from all the burdens we face

each day of the week for sure

I pray that today will last for all time

and if it doesn’t I will have to store

this scene, the smell, and lack of fear

it’s what we’ve struggled for all year.
