Walk Notes

A linear walk

This walk is recommended only for those who are (or are accompanied by someone) reasonably proficient at map reading.

This is the third walk of a series of 5 walks from east to west Sussex. The others are:

  1. Robertsbridge to Uckfield
  2. Uckfield to Pease Pottage
  3. Steyning to Cocking
  4. Cocking to South Harting

Split the walk

It is fairly straightforward to split the main walk into two sections.

  • First section: From Pease Pottage to Cowfold (20km)
  • Second section: From Cowfold to Steyning (20.6km)

Walk Options

Starting at Cowfold

Catch the 17 bus from Horsham station (Coming out of the main station entrance, turn left past the roundabout and cross North Street for the bus stop on the other side. The 17 bus goes via Horsham bus station before heading to Crabtree, Cowfold, Partridge Green and Henfield. Alight at The Village Hall, Cowfold to pick up the main walk to Steyning (20.6km)

Ending at Cowfold

Finish at Cowfold after 20km. Catch the 17 bus at the stop opposite The Village Hall, Cowfold to Horsham railway station.

Ending at Crabtree after 15.5km

Catch the 17 bus at the stop opposite Crabtree PH, Crabtree to Horsham railway station.

Ending at Partridge Green after 24.9km

Catch the 17 bus at the stop opposite The Partridge PH, Partridge Green to Horsham railway station.

Ending at Henfield after 28.7km

Catch the 17 bus from the High Street. (From the Railway PH, head E along Upper Station Road, subequently Church St for 900m until you reach a T-junction with the High Street and turn right for the bus stop on the W side of the High Street.)

Transport

Trains go from London Bridge to Horley, journey time 45 minutes. On arrival at Horley catch the frequent 20 bus from the stop outside the main station entrance to Pease Pottage, Woodgate.

Suggested Train: Take the train nearest to 9.00am.

Return from The Clock Tower, Steyning by the 100 bus from The Clock Tower to Burgess Hill station (50 mins) or if you've missed the last bus then bus 2 from The Clock Tower to Shoreham by Sea station. (30 mins).
