- Do not jump in - deep water can still be cold water shock temperature even if the surface is warm. Float to live. People drown in the London Thames every year doing this.
- UK sea temperatures are usually freezing until June, even in the south. They peak in late August / early September.
- A shallow sea or an afternoon tide coming in over hot sand on a sunny day can add a few degrees.
- Warm sun can heat up the top water layer (about 30cm) by the afternoon which can help getting in
