Features

This is a gem of a walk through an intricate landscape of streams, heath and mixed woodland accompanied by toot toot of the steam train followed by an awe inspiring collection of full size locomotives at the Sheffield Park Museum and a nostalgic train journey back (cream teas can be served on the train if booked in advance). Not to be missed, entrance to the loco shed is included in your return steam ticket. The lunch pub is a high standard and smoke in your eye is free if you stick your neck out the window. One thing you can't do on modern trains.

The walk is intended to be undertaken as part of a round trip by bus and steam train to and from East Grinstead Station. Alternatively you can return by foot or bus to Forest Row at various stages making it possible to do a circular walk to and from Forest Row in which case you do not travel on the Bluebell Line but you still travel by bus to and from E. Grinstead.

The first 3 kms of this walk is shared with the short (10 km) Forest Row Circular. Participants could divert at Goat's Cross to do that (instructions NOT included here), continue to Sheffield Park (18 km) or return to Forest Row from the lunch time stop of this walk (Full instructions given here). A decision as to whether you are going to ride on the Bluebell Line does not have to be made until after lunch.

This is a 'Map Walk'. To do the walk, it is necessary for at least one member of your party to have the correct map and a compass. OS Explorer Map 135 Ashdown Forest. The route has been planned to incorporate the best route available within a reasonable time. The directions alone without the map are insufficient to complete the walk.
