South East weather (Met Office)

Updated: 01:06 on Tue, 23-Apr

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, becoming brighter later.

Today:

  • Cloudy for much of the day with some fairly persistent spells of rain and drizzle likely at times, suppressing temperatures generally.
  • Conditions becoming brighter starting from the north during the afternoon with some sunny spells later.
  • Maximum Temperature 12C.

Tonight:

  • Remaining largely dry overnight with some prolonged clear spells and feeling chilly with some frost possible in rural areas.
  • Breezy towards the Kentish coast where risk of isolated showers.
  • Minimum Temperature 5C.

Wednesday:

  • A mostly dry day with some good sunny spells, although risk of showers continuing along the Kentish coast.
  • Feeling cool with some patchy frost around first thing and again overnight.
  • Maximum Temperature 13C.

Thursday to Saturday:

  • Showery Thursday and breezy towards the coast, with overnight frost.
  • Friday starting mostly fine and dry, but it may turn cloudy and unsettled later, with these conditions persisting into Saturday.

UK Day 6-7 and week 2

  • An uncertain start to the period though likely unsettled as a frontal system pushes into southern areas and possibly across the UK through the weekend.
  • Beyond this low pressure patterns becoming more dominant than of late with wet weather perhaps more likely to develop in parts of the south and east, with western and especially northern areas hanging on to the best of any drier interludes, though all parts are may see some rain at times.
  • Onshore winds along eastern coasts will likely make it feel rather cold at times, though for all parts temperatures will likely trend back toward average.
  • Into early May, something of a north-south split looks possible, with relatively drier conditions further to the north and the greatest chance of rain further to the south.

UK Week 3 and 4

  • In this period, the chances of unsettled weather are slightly less than usual in the north and increased briefly before falling average further south.
  • Therefore, some spells of wetter weather are likely for all, but perhaps especially southern areas with the driest conditions probably further north.
  • Temperatures will probably be near or a little below average, before returning to average late in the period, though it is worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.
