A very good and varied 10 mile walk in the Surrey Hills, undertaken on a humid afternoon, with sunny intervals.
There's a lot of familiar terrain on this walk, but walked in a different arrangement to incorporate some fresh paths. There's heathland walking, woods, valleys and river-side sections, with lunch being taken at a picnic-site in an old 'Scheduled Ancient Monument' gunpowder mills (a pub option is also available in Chilworth).
The North Downs Way takes the walker past the isolated St Martha-on-the-Hill church, but a different path is taken through Chantry Wood to reach Shalford Mill and then the water meadows next to the River Wey. There's then a familiar path beside the Navigation into Guildford.
A great walk for a sunny day as it has lots of tree cover, and the sandy paths (in many places) were good today.
