A very decent walk for this walker's return from an enforced hiatus. This one, of around 8.7 miles, was a nicely-wooded saunter over the North Downs, in the popular walking area of Knockholt/Shoreham.

The initial few miles was a bit noisy, being close to the M25 and a dual carriage-way into Orpington, but this disappears as the walk progresses. There's a nice balance of woodland and downland prior to the descent (which can be hazardous as slippery grass) into Shoreham.

Lunch is had in the storm-porch of Saint Peter and St Paul church, which is being renovated currently, prior to more woodland and downland on the afternoon ascent. The valley of Magpie Bottom, an SSSI nature reserve, is probably the day's highlight.

The North Downs Way offers more decent views prior to the descent into Otford and an awaiting train - for a change!

A very nice, short walk, close to London, that provides a decent work-out for longer challenges to follow. Would be nice in the Bluebell season and isn't overly muddy currently, though beware of slippery leaves and grass on some of the descents!
