[Feb-02] OS Maps app: There are issues loading GPX files. Use the workaround below, and try maps.me (free, uses KML files) until its fixed.
"You need to send the GPX file by email to your device. In your email, click on the attached GPX file and choose to open with OS Maps. The file will be imported and shown as a route. Alternatively, you can use the desktop version of OS Maps to import the GPX file and the route will appear on your device as soon as it is synchronised.
"Newer versions of iOS have changed slightly. Clicking on a GPX file will show the file contents. Tap the share button in the top right, then choose share with OS Maps app to trigger the import function. -- OS Maps App support
How to use GPS data
The Android and iPhone apps, and GPS devices like the Satmap 20, work while you are out walking as the maps are stored on your device, i.e. they don't use 'data', and you don't need a signal (in practise, even with 4G, you will rarely have a signal while out walking.)
Maps.me is a free Android and iPhone app. It uses OpenStreetMap maps, which are also free.
Easy to use. Works with our KML files.
Satmap Active 20
Satmap Active 20 is a dedicated, rugged, waterproof, walker's GPS device. £480 for GPS device and OS 1:50K mapping for Great Britain, or £680 with 1:25K.
