swcwalks, book2, walk3, Saunderton via Wheeler End Circular. 17/7/25
amib, Jul-25

A 9.6 mile walk undertaken on a humid afternoon, with showers and sunny spells. This variation is not the 'official' one on the website as the first half, from the station to West Wycombe, is different. It would still result in a fine, peaceful walk though, albeit it's believed that filming was taking place today in the appropriately-named Hellbottom Wood, which sounded like a war-zone! There was also some very slight M40 traffic noise in Wheeler End. The church of St Lawrence, at West Wycombe, was the intended lunch-time stop, but a shower forced a slightly earlier respite, under Yews (the church was locked anyway!). A café option, in the caves, or an hotel in the High Street provide alternatives. A short section of repetition towards the end, but this was a nicely wooded walk, with some decent paths today, and only a couple of steeper climbs. The 'main' walk must be revisited at some point. N.B. The main road viewed from the Mausoleum was the A40 into High Wycombe.
