Walk notes

This Walk is from Upton Court Park (Slough) to Virginia Waters (Egham). It is a very easy walk covering approximately 16km over 4 hours of walking, not including breaks and stoppage time, and the elevations are very soft and gradual. There are lots of amenities at the waypoints, which are each no more than an hour apart at a very comfortable pace, including toilets and cafes.

This walk starts in a built up town, Slough, and ends in the very pretty gardens of the Royal Landscape, giving the very spiritual and uplifting effect of walking out of urban civilisation into an idyllic rural setting. This is a very good introductory walk for those new to it and theres lots of absorbing local culture and history to discover along the way. A visit to Windsor castle would not go amiss. There's some nice wildlife to explore, with deer and pheasants at various points through the Royal Landscape which you are sure to see if you are quiet enough.

The way points are: Upton Court Park, Windsor Castle, Snow Hill, Saville Gardens & Valley Gardens.

Apologies for not having plotted the route from train station to train station, but this is very easy to adapt. Slough Station is a good starting point, only about a ten minute walk from the start at Upton Court Park, and Virginia Waters or Egham Stations are not too far from the end at Valley Gardens/Egham Wick. This will add about 3km to the total distance.

[Sorry, the waypoints are mot marked on the map - Ed]

Walk Options

An alternate starting point is Windsor Riverside Station which is along the route near Windsor Castle.

Links The Royal Landscape - the area at the end of the walk around Virginia Water lake, Valley Gardens (both free) and Savill Gardens (admission charge) - the website has a useful map if you wish to see the Valley Gardens, or walk around the lake.

The best ticket might be London to Windsor Stations, as the out and back stations are not on the same line or even train company. Trains to Slough go from Paddington, and Egham/Virginia Water trains return to Waterloo. However, both routes meet at Windsor, so a return to "Windsor Stations" should be acceptable, together with a single to cover the 2 stops from Virginia Water to Staines (Staines is on the Windsor to London Waterloo route
