An update of a walk last undertaken in 2010, but filmed on the mobile phone, so an update was required.
This was undertaken on a warm, mainly sunny day, with a light NW breeze. A variant avoiding Chiddingstone, but extending to Tonbridge (via SWC 235 GPX track) made for around 10.5 miles.
The walk is one of classic Wealden terrain, minus the mud today; rivers, ponds, woods, undulating hills, lovely churches, a stately home and a castle.
In by-passing, Chiddingstone, lunch was had at St John The Baptist church, Penshurst, around half-way in, or there are other options nearby.
The extension to Tonbridge, following the Eden Valley Walk, is well worth doing as it follows a wooded, abandoned canal route to Haysden Water and Country park. It then joins the Wealdway, briefly, for the finale into town.
A very good walk, with good paths today. The only negative was the accompanying jet-noise for around two-thirds of it.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:
Hever Castle: Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I. It formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of tumultuous events that changed the course of Britain’s history, monarchy and religion. Hever Castle is what every child wants a castle to be: crenelated, moated, and haunted. A permanent exhibition in the Long Gallery brings the 16th century to life with costumed figures illustrating key events in Anne’s life at the Castle. Admission is charged.
St Peter's Church in Hever is a part-Norman church with a fourteenth-century tower topped with a shingle spire. Within the Bullen Chapel is the brass over the tomb of Sir Thomas Bullen, Anne Boleyn's father, showing Sir Thomas in his garter robes.
Chiddingstone Castle is one of the Seven Wonders of the Weald. It is a historic house, set in 35 acres of Kentish countryside, filled with treasures collected over a lifetime by Denys Eyre Bower.
Penshurst Place & Gardens have been the place for poetic inspiration and lavish Royal hospitality for over 650 years. The jewel in the crown is the 11 acres of Elizabethan walled gardens; stunning displays divided by a mile of yew hedges into 'rooms'; each garden is planted to give a succession of colour as the seasons change.

As lockdown rules relaxed, Andy and I met up with our friend Beck to go for a long, Kent countryside walk - starting in Hever and ending in Leigh. During this Kent walk, we passed Hever Castle, where Anne Boleyn courted Henry VII, walked through Chiddingstone village, an impressive Tudor village, with a half-timbered house or two, mostly owned and managed by the National Trust (The church, school and Chiddingstone Castle aside). After more hiking through the English countryside, we arrived into Penshurst with a magnificent entry - under a medieval house! Penshurst Place, built in the 1th century, was easier to view than the earlier Hever Castle. This is one of several hiking England travel vlogs - many of which are in the South East of England and can be done as day trips from London, so if you've enjoyed this video, please do check out my other ones too.
