Around 9 miles of walking, mainly through the ancient woodland of Epping Forest, in Essex. It was a grey day, initially, with a few sunny intervals later on, and a chill easterly breeze throughout.

Both tube stations are within Zone 6.

Lunch was had in the grounds of St Thomas's Church, Upshire, which is next to the recommended pub stop.

The paths were, on the whole, satisfactory today, despite recent heavy rain, but there were some places where thick mud remained, particularly around gates.

This walker found the 'forest' quite soulless, in comparison to some south of the river, with little bird song and flora.

A decent day's walking though, despite some traffic noise at various places.
