Walton-on-the-Naze Circular walk

Coastal walk from a faded grandeur Victorian seaside resort with pier to a fast eroding, fossil rich headland and a sand spit. Return along the beach or salt marsh sea wall.

  • Clacton-on-Sea to Walton-on-the-Naze. 2/10/11.
    amib, Oct-11

Two walks for the price of one here as the walker has combined Free Walks 52 and 98 to make a coastal walk of around 14 miles. This is the recommended way to do these walks, in this walker's opinion, as they complement one another and make the journey East worthwhile.

The walk from Clacton is a straight-forward one along the coast path. Walton-on-the-Naze makes a useful lunch stop, being 7 miles in, whilst the walk around the Naze makes for a more pleasant and peaceful contrast. Unfortunately, the tide conspired against a visit to Stone Point, but the circuit around the Naze was scenic enough.

A nice walk of contrasts, particularly on a gorgeous day like this one.

(The bird seen towards the end of the walk is believed to be the rare Marsh Warbler).
